The cost for new construction software is not as obvious as you might think. While the price for the software itself is usually stated up front, there are a number of “hidden” costs associated with buying new software that aren’t always talked about. These costs, which can be hard dollar expenses or less tangible economic expenditures, should be factored in to arrive at your true cost for new software

Here are five “hidden” costs associated with construction software.

1. Training and Implementation Costs
Construction software buyers are often naive about training and implementation costs, which are usually a 1:1 ratio to the software cost. (This means that a $10K system will probably cost about $20K by the time training and implementation expenses are added in.) The more complex the software system is, however, the higher the ratio will be. The ratio for these costs can go as high as 1:5 or even 2:1 for systems on the highest end of the complexity scale. In order to save money on construction projects, you must in fact have construction projects running. This is a very fundamental necessity of the construction business. No project, no paycheck, no savings for the owner. It?s really a very simple situation ? we need to get banks to loan money to developers who will then go out and pay architects to draw buildings who will then wipe their hands clean of the design upon hand-off to the contractor who will turn around and blame every cost and schedule overrun on the architect until everybody lands in court fighting over money. It?s really a lovely system we have worked out, but without the initial financing from the bank, our diabolical plans cannot even begin.

The Construction Loan Timeline and the Number One Mistake Most People Make

The number one mistake, hands down, that most people make when building their home is not allowing enough time to get through the process, especially for those people who are acting as an owner-builder and building without a general contractor.

Building a new home, and obtaining a loan to do so, is not as simple as going out and obtaining a mortgage to buy an existing home. You CANNOT do it all in 30 days. Period. Do not expect to do so. This pre-building and planning stage is often cited as the most stressful period of most people’s building experience.

If you are buying a piece of land and wrapping its purchase into your construction loan, then you must be sure you allow enough time to get to closing on your construction loan before your land purchase contract expires. Do not let the seller or the seller’s real estate agent pressure you into a 30 day contract. Obama’s Construction Plan An Opportunity for Job Creation

President Barack Obama’s plan for construction jobs is a three-way long term strategy aimed at boosting productivity and economy, ensuring competitiveness and improving unemployment.

Well, why do I term it a three way strategy? The answer lie in the fact that construction jobs has a positive chain reaction to the economy. With it comes along investments in buildings, road and railroad construction and school buildings which in turn will create jobs during and upon completion.

If we take an example of a building a Casino, its construction alone will create jobs and when completed, there is a high posibility of mushrooming of business and entertainment. And when it comes to school construction, it will help maintain the existing ones and build new ones and in the long term spar the economy. Keep in mind the fact that investment in education ensures America’s innovation and competitiveness in the future.

Code for Federal Regulations about construction practices

Part 1926 of the Code of Federal Regulations is found in volume 8 of the 1999 edition. It’s part of title 29, which deals with labor issues and the Department of Labor. More specifically, Part 1926 deals with safety and health regulations for construction, and is enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

After first defining federal rules and procedures for such things as inspections and granting of variances, Part 1926 addresses numerous subjects of importance during construction or demolition. Topics covered include rules of construction, general safety and health provisions, safety training, first aid, fire prevention, proper lighting, sanitation, barricades, and protective equipment.

Part 1926 also includes sections dealing with safety in the building and repairing of ships, the use of construction machinery such as cranes, and specific practices to be followed when performing construction or demolition work underground or underwater.
